How do I participate in the Honors Program<\/a><\/p>

Verify you meet the eligibility requirements and submit the program application, which is available online or at the Honors Program office.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

What are the eligibility requirements?<\/a><\/p>

To be in the Honors Program at Austin Community College, you must fill out an application and meet ONE of the following criteria:<\/p>\n

Top 15% of high school graduating class.
\nCumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher.
\nACT score of 26 or higher.
\nSAT score of 1170 or higher (in verbal and math sections).
\nCumulative college GPA of 3.25 or higher, with the completion of nine (9) hours of transferable college coursework.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

What if I fall short of the eligibility requirements?<\/a><\/p>

Since intellectual motivation is a significant factor in determining academic success, those who fall slightly short of the criteria, but who wish to undertake the challenge, may be admitted at the discretion of the Honors Associate Dean. For students who are returning to college after at least five years and would like a \u201cfresh start,\u201d we will consider only the most recent college grades. How do I register for an honors class?<\/a><\/p>

Using this form<\/a>, make a request to be approved to register for individual courses. The Honors Program staff will verify your Honors Program membership and 3.0 minimum GPA. Once verified, they will notify you of your approval status via email. You may then register through Self-Service. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

What can I expect in a typical honors course?<\/a><\/p>

You can expect an engaging and intellectually stimulating course in a supportive learning environment. Classes feature in-depth discussion, project-based learning, independent inquiry, presentations, service-learning, or other activities designed to promote the development of critical thinking skills and scholastic excellence. You can also expect to find like-minded students who are ready to fully engage in projects and group discussions.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n

If I don't take an honors class this semester, will I have to reapply?<\/a><\/p>

No. Once you have been accepted to the program, you do NOT need to reapply at any time.<\/p>\n

Do honors courses charge higher tuition or annual fees?<\/a><\/p>

No, your ACC tuition covers Honors Program membership. Some classes may charge fees to cover optional field trips. However, nothing outside regular course materials is required.<\/p>\n

Are there minimum requirements for staying in the program once I've been accepted?<\/a><\/p>

In order to register for Honors courses each semester, a student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Exemptions from this policy may be determined on a case-by-case basis. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n
