A group of ACC students is helping Central Texans discover their tax credits and file their taxes this tax season.
The college partnered with Foundation Communities to launch free tax preparation assistance through the Prosper Tax Center.
The new space was announced Friday, February 9, at the ACC Highland Campus. Students and the community will be able to sign up for appointments to get free income tax assistance and education. Staff, which includes ACC accounting and business students, will help file tax returns to ensure community members get the maximum refund and claim all eligible tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for working families.

“This opportunity allows them to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical setting. It will develop their skills and make them more competitive in the job market,” says Dr. Shasta Buchanan, ACC vice chancellor of Student Affairs. “Not only will it provide training, but our students can use the Prosper Tax Center to secure the best tax refund, which becomes a critical financial resource for our students.”
The space will be available throughout the tax season inside the ACCelerator at ACC Highland Campus. Support is available to moderate to low-income community members. Additionally, bilingual support will be available.
“One in five families are leaving money on the table through the Earned Tax Credit. We take it to a whole new level to get ACC involved. This will involve many ACC students, so it is a great learning experience and will benefit the students,” says Rep. Doggett. “Let’s work together to get all the help out to our community.”

The site is open most Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays throughout tax season.
