Austin Community College District (ACC) is launching a new initiative to help better support parenting students. 

The college is seeking to identify all enrolled students who are either parents or legal guardians of a child under 18. The 88th Texas Legislature recently passed legislation providing amended provisions of the Texas Education Code. Under the new Education Code, institutions must offer:

What does this mean for you

It means ACC is making sure you know about all the resources available to you and your family, including services such as:

  • Medical and mental health services
  • Programs for food and housing assistance
  • Parenting and childcare resources
  • Job assistance
  • Transportation support
  • Academic success strategies
  • Earliest Registration Date

“The goal is to enhance the support for parenting students by helping them not only achieve academic success but also balance family and financial responsibilities,” Dr. Shasta Buchanan, ACC Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
