Austin Community College District (ACC) kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations with a special symposium honoring Mexican American civil rights attorney Gus Garcia.
Sponsored in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the symposium will delve into Garcia’s life, legal career, and his pivotal role in championing civil rights for Mexican Americans. Gus Garcia is best remembered for his landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Hernandez v. Texas, which established protections against discrimination for Mexican Americans under the 14th Amendment.
