Austin Community College District’s (ACC) new Center for Government and Civic Service (CGCS) hosted a Civic Leadership Simulation focused on strategic communication during a public health crisis. The simulation provides students with hands-on opportunities to develop leadership skills and engage in their communities.

Participants stepped into various roles—such as mayor, reporter, chief of public health, or concerned parent—collaborating and debating during a simulated public meeting to mirror real-world challenges. Guided by role objectives, students practiced navigating high-stakes scenarios, developing communication strategies, and balancing competing interests.

To enhance the learning experience, CGCS brought in expert mentors who provided valuable insights and reflections. The event concluded with an after-action review, where participants shared takeaways and discussed how they could apply their lessons to real-life situations.

The next Civic Leadership Simulation is scheduled for February 24, 2025. For additional information, contact CGCS Director Bryan Port at [email protected]
