February is Black History Month, a time to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. This year’s national theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” marks 100 years of celebrating Black history and highlights the lasting impact these commemorations continue to have today.

Austin Community College District (ACC) invites you to celebrate all month long with a series of free events happening across the district.

Highlighted events

BRASS Kick Off

  • When: Monday, February 2 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
  • Where: Highland Campus, Truth, Community Healing & Transformation Center, Building 4000
  • What: Celebrate with a casual mix of music, food, and connection. 

Bloodline Brushstrokes | A Fifth-Generation Vision of Jacob Fontaine’s Legacy in Art

  • When: Wednesday, February 4 | 11:30 a.m – 1:30 p.m. 
  • Where: ACC Eastview, African American Cultural Center 
  • What: Experience a powerful visual journey through the history of Central Texas as seen through the eyes of the fifth-generation grandson of Reverend Jacob Fontaine (1808-1898). Join us for the exhibition opening featuring a live talk from the artist, interactive art-making exercises, and a complimentary lunch. The collection will be on display all month. 

February Social | Celebrating Black History Month

  • When: Monday, February 16 | 6 – 8 p.m. 
  • Where: ACC Eastview Campus
  • What: Join ACC Student Dems for a social hour in celebration of Black History Month to connect, reflect, and celebrate.

Lunch and Learn with Professor Roland Hayes

  • When: Thursday, February 19 | Noon – 1:30 p.m. 
  • Where: ACC Riverside Campus, Bldg. G, Room 8100
  • What: Join history professor and founding faculty member Roland C. Hayes as he shares insights from over 50 years of teaching at ACC. This session invites attendees to reflect on the power of remembrance.

How Are You Doing On Your Journey?

  • When: Wednesday, February 25 | 1 p.m. 
  • Where: Virtual | RSVP Here
  • What: Join a panel discussion on how students manage the unique pressures of academic and cultural expectations while prioritizing mental health, setting boundaries, and cultivating spaces of joy. 

Black History Month Closing Celebration

  • When: Friday, February 27 | 4 – 7 p.m.
  • Where: ACC Eastview, African American Cultural Center 
  • What: The 2026 Black History Month Closing Celebration serves as the finale to a month of reflection and education, centered on the 2026 national theme: A Century of Black History Commemorations.
