High school students enrolled in dual credit at Austin Community College District (ACC) earn college credit while completing their high school diploma—saving time and reducing future college costs. These courses follow college-level expectations and count toward degree or workforce pathways.
Recent state legislation strengthens how dual credit coursework is recognized. During the 89th Texas Legislative Session, ACC helped support and pass Senate Bill 1191. The bill requires school districts to apply GPA weighting to dual credit courses the same way they do for other advanced academic coursework.
For students currently taking, or considering, dual credit, ACC has published a detailed guide that breaks down how dual credit works, how it compares to AP, available workforce options, and tips for staying on track.
