The ACC Emergency Management team, part of the ACC Police Department, is here to help you stay prepared both at work and at home.
Central Texas is currently in the primary, high-risk severe weather season—bringing risks such as thunderstorms, flash flooding, power outages, and even the occasional impacts from tropical systems. Most disruptions we experience are short-notice and short-duration, but they still require basic preparedness at home.
This weekend, extending into Monday, April 27, is a good opportunity to pick up essential emergency supplies during the State of Texas tax-free holiday.
Consider practical basics you’ll actually use:
- Flashlights or lanterns + extra batteries
- Portable phone chargers
- First aid kits
- Fire extinguishers
- Weather or battery-powered radios
- Coolers (for food/medication during outages)
- Smoke/CO detectors
- Tarps or plastic sheeting (minor damage control)
A simple kit covering lighting, communications, and basic medical needs can make a significant difference during the first 24–72 hours of an outage or emergency.
