Austin Community College District (ACC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) students are earning recognition on both the state and international stage, representing the College at major leadership conferences and bringing home top honors.
ACC’s Alpha Gamma Pi Chapter participated in two major PTK events this spring: the Texas Regional Convention in Fort Worth (March 5–8) and the international Catalyst Convention in Baltimore, Maryland (March 26–28). Together, the events brought thousands of high-achieving community college students together for leadership development, collaboration, and recognition.
At the Texas Regional Convention, ACC student leaders joined peers from across the state for workshops, keynote sessions, and chapter business meetings. The chapter earned multiple awards, including First Place in the Regional Yearbook Competition, Second Place for the Community Service Poster, and honors recognizing campus impact, research, and service. Several members were also inducted into the PTK District Hall of Honor.

Later that month, ACC students took part in Catalyst, PTK’s annual international convention, where chapters from across the U.S. and abroad gathered in Baltimore. Students attended leadership sessions, connected with transfer partners, and participated in international officer elections.
The Alpha Gamma Pi Chapter was named a Top 100 Chapter internationally, marking its first time receiving the recognition since 2022. Individual honors included the Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship awarded to Lorali Bookout, the Hites Scholarship awarded to Angel Sanchez, and a Distinguished Member Award for William Hawthorne.
For Lorali Bookout, a Mechanical Engineering student and Co-President of PTK who represented ACC as Chapter President, the experience highlighted the impact of student leadership and community.
“It was inspiring to be surrounded by students who are passionate about leadership and service. Seeing our chapter recognized at the international level was especially meaningful. It felt like all the work we’ve put in truly mattered, and it was rewarding to share that moment with our team.”
