Big names, same degrees. Austin Community College District (ACC) is updating how academic programs are organized to make it simpler for you to explore majors, connect related fields, and navigate your educational journey.

Starting this fall, ACC will begin transitioning from the current “Areas of Study” model to a more familiar “School of” structure, including names like the School of Business, School of Humanities & Communications, and School of Science, Engineering & Mathematics.

What You Need to Know

What’s changing:

  • Areas of Study will now be grouped into “Schools”
  • Some program area names may be updated for clarity and industry alignment
  • You will begin seeing the new School names on the website, in advising materials, and across campus

What’s staying the same:

  • Your degree program and course requirements
  • Your academic pathway and graduation plan
  • Current classes and program offerings
  • Faculty, support services, and advising resources

The change is designed to make it easier for you to explore programs, understand how fields connect, and navigate your academic options. Most importantly, there will be no major impact to your classes, degree plans, or graduation pathways.

The transition will roll out in phases through academic year 2027 as updates are made across ACC websites, catalogs, and student materials.
