ACC closes Friday, 6/19, and hosts events in honor of Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of the emancipation of slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865 — two and a half years after the official Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln. In honor of the day, Austin Community College District (ACC) observes Juneteenth with events and a closure.

Thursday, June 18 | Juneteenth Celebration | Eastview Campus | 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Hosted by the ACC’s African American Cultural Center, the communitywide Juneteenth celebration will include music, games, giveaways, and more. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, June 19 | College Closed

ACC will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, which was designated a federal holiday by Congress in 2021. Registration will remain open online. The College will reopen on its regular schedule Saturday, June 20.

Friday, June 19 | Annual Juneteenth Parade

ACC will participate in the annual Greater East Austin Youth Association Juneteenth Park Festival and Parade on Friday, June 19. ACC will have its own float. The parade begins at 10 a.m. near the intersection of Comal St. and E. Martin Luther King Blvd. and ends near Rosewood Park.
