For parenting students, the cost of childcare can take up a significant part of your monthly budget. ACC’s Childcare Scholarships can help eligible students reduce that expense while you work toward your educational goals.
Depending on the number of credit hours you’re taking, Childcare Scholarships may cover 60 to 90 percent of your childcare costs with an approved provider.
Here’s what you need to know about whether you qualify, how much support you may receive, and how the scholarship works:
Who is eligible for a Childcare Scholarship?
Students must meet several basic eligibility requirements, including:
- Be currently enrolled at ACC in at least 6 credit hours
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
- Have a Student Aid Index (SAI) below 1500
- Students who do not have a FAFSA or TASFA on file may be able to qualify through alternate income verification. Students whose income is at or below 200% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines may be eligible.
Currently, Community Education and College Readiness students aren’t eligible for Childcare Scholarships.
What ages are covered?
Childcare Scholarship awards are available to support parents with children under age 12.
Can I choose my own childcare provider?
Yes. Students may choose any childcare provider licensed by the state as long as the provider is willing to register with ACC. If you don’t have one in mind, an ACC CARE Coordinator can provide you with a list of currently registered providers.
How does the scholarship pay for childcare?
ACC pays the childcare provider directly for its portion of the cost of care. Payments are made at the end of each month after services have been provided, and the necessary invoices have been submitted.
How are applications processed?
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who have not been notified that they have received a scholarship before the semester begins, typically in early August for the fall semester and mid-December for the spring semester, will be placed on a waitlist. As additional funding becomes available, more students may be added at the beginning of each semester.
Is there anything else I need to apply for?
Yes. Students who apply for an ACC Childcare Scholarship are also required to apply for Texas Workforce Solutions Childcare Services (CCS) in the area where they live.
If you are awarded CCS benefits, you will be required to transition to CCS for childcare assistance.
