October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, an opportunity to recognize the impact of domestic violence, support those affected, and highlight resources available to those who need help.
Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical harm, emotional abuse, threats, financial control, and other behaviors intended to intimidate or control another person. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background.
For college students, these experiences can also create challenges that extend into the classroom, affecting mental health, financial stability, housing, and academic success.
At ACC, you have access to resources that can help you navigate difficult personal circumstances and connect with additional support.
Support Is Available at ACC
Mental Health Counseling
ACC offers free, confidential Mental Health Counseling Services to currently enrolled students. Counselors can help students work through emotional challenges, relationship concerns, stress, and the effects of trauma.
Credit students aged 18 and older who meet eligibility requirements can also access free virtual mental health support through TimelyCare, including 24/7 TalkNow services and flexible scheduled counseling appointments outside of traditional business hours.
The C.A.R.E. Network
Domestic violence can also affect a person’s ability to meet basic needs, including access to safe housing, food, childcare, and financial stability.
ACC’s C.A.R.E. Network connects students with college and community resources to help address these challenges. CARE Coordinators can assist you in exploring available services and identifying potential options for support.
Victim Advocacy Services
The ACC Police Department’s Victim Advocacy Program provides support to students and employees affected by crimes, including domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Victim advocates can help individuals understand their rights, navigate available resources, and get connected with support.

Don’t Navigate It Alone
Whether you’re experiencing an unsafe relationship, concerned about someone you know, or looking for information, resources are available.
You can also explore ACC’s Title IX support resources for additional college and community services.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported — both on campus and off.
