Whether you’re paying a friend, handling bills, or moving money between accounts, there are more ways than ever to do it securely. ACC’s  Student Money Management Office, in collaboration with the University Federal Credit Union (UFCU), shares six reliable methods for transferring money, to find the right option for your needs.

A Message from University Federal Credit Union

Online money transfer services give you more flexibility than ever to put your money where you need it, when you need it. Read our six ways to move money securely.

  1. Easily send money to anyone with a mobile number through your banking institution. Many banking institutions, including UFCU, offer Online Banking and mobile app services where you can transfer funds to other people. At UFCU, transfers only require you to enter the recipient’s phone number or email. The recipient will receive a link explaining how to receive the money transfer.
  1. External bank transfers. You can also make an account transfer within most online banking website and mobile apps.
  1. Instant Transfers to other bank members. If the recipient is also a member at your banking institution, you can usually instantly transfer to their account. At UFCU, for example, members visit Online Banking or the Mobile app, select Pay & Transfer. Then, Choose Transfer to Another Member.

All you have to do is provide the recipient’s last name, nine-digit account number, and the share ID, which could be a banking (share) or a loan account. If needed, you can add a comment that the recipient can see.

  1. Third-party digital payment services. Most bank accounts can fund many digital payment services ( PayPal®, Google Pay®, Venmo®, Cash App®, and Apple Pay®). If you’re a UFCU member, visit the Digital Payment Services page to learn how to link your account.
  1. Make automatic recurring payments with Bill Pay. Many banking institutions offer free online bill pay as a way to pay businesses directly from your account using online bank transfers.

You may need to authorize the Bill Pay payment through your bank’s Online Banking or Mobile app system. Once authorized, you can usually send or schedule one-time or automatic recurring payments.

  1. Send and receive money online with Zelle®. Zelle is a convenient transfer option available in many  mobile apps for banking institutions. Through Zelle you can send or receive money directly online.
