Austin Community College District (ACC) partners with Housing Connector, a nonprofit dedicated to removing barriers to housing, to help more students access safe and stable housing.

“Stable housing is essential to our students’ success,” said ACC Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart. “Our mission is simple: help every student succeed. This partnership is about meeting students where they are, removing barriers, and making sure they have the stability and support to keep moving toward their goals.”

What this means for you:

  • You can connect directly with ACC Student Advocates, who will help identify the root of your challenges and connect you to resources — including housing through Housing Connector.
  • Housing Connector works with property owners across Austin to provide affordable housing options for students.

“Housing insecurity is a significant barrier to student achievement,” said Shayna Dunitz, Housing Connector Managing Director, Austin. “Our collaboration with ACC is a step toward ensuring that students in Austin have the stable housing they need to focus on their education and future.”

More than 55% of ACC students have experienced housing insecurity, and over 57% would have difficulty covering a $500 emergency expense. ACC is working to change that by expanding basic needs support, so students can focus on learning, not just surviving.

“Students can’t focus on learning if they’re struggling to find a place to live,” said Cara Crowley, ACC Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Basic Needs Systems. “This partnership helps remove a major barrier to student success and strengthens our commitment to meeting students’ basic needs.”

This is the latest in a series of expansions and new partnerships ACC has developed to meet basic needs. At the beginning of the fall semester, the College opened Riverbat Bites Food Pantries on all campuses.
