Interested in a hands-on career in construction or skilled trades? Austin Community College District (ACC) is partnering with Sundt Construction (Sundt) to expand training programs that connect students directly to high-demand jobs in Central Texas.

The new partnership, signed Thursday, February 19, at ACC’s Riverside Campus, will expand craft trade training and strengthen long-term talent development across the region. It’s designed to create clear and direct pathways into careers in construction, electrical, HVAC, manufacturing, and other skilled trades. Students can earn industry-recognized credentials and prepare for pre-apprenticeships that lead directly to registered apprenticeship opportunities.

Sundt, a major construction company working on projects like 183 North Mobility Project in Central Texas, will collaborate with ACC to help shape training programs around real workforce needs. That means students gain the skills employers are actively looking for.

Through the partnership, ACC and Sundt will work together to:

  • Co-create construction and skilled craft training programs
  • Align curriculum with industry-recognized credentials
  • Develop pre-apprenticeship pathways that lead directly to registered apprenticeships

“This program gave me real-world experience beyond the classroom through our projects. It showed me what to expect outside of the trade,” said Alfredo Gonzalez, ACC student and Sundt employee. “I didn’t want to go to college at first. I tried going straight to work, but it didn’t work out. So I went to college and now I’m in a position that’s helping me build a career doing what I actually want to do.”

The initiative builds on ACC’s ongoing investment in workforce education, including expanded skilled trades training spaces through bond-funded improvements at its Round Rock Campus and the college’s growing Infrastructure Academy.
