The 88th Texas Legislature recently passed legislation providing amended provisions of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/88R\/billtext\/html\/HB01361I.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Education Code<\/a>. <\/strong>Under the new Education Code, institutions must offer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A designated<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcapitol.texas.gov%2Ftlodocs%2F88R%2Fbilltext%2Fpdf%2FHB01361F.pdf%23navpanes%3D0&amp;data=05%7C01%7Carellano%40txstate.edu%7Cb724e76d2da64dfd81d308dbb4a2d5dc%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C638302383682771389%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=6THTo%2BfWwPahD%2FnxxBCQE3lRHOJE89WIPb0E9bOWxk8%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">liaison officer<\/a> <\/strong>to assist student parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/88R\/billtext\/pdf\/SB00412F.pdf#navpanes=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">protections<\/a> <\/strong>for pregnant and parenting students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcapitol.texas.gov%2Ftlodocs%2F88R%2Fbilltext%2Fpdf%2FSB00459F.pdf%23navpanes%3D0&amp;data=05%7C01%7Carellano%40txstate.edu%7Cb724e76d2da64dfd81d308dbb4a2d5dc%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C0%7C638302383682771389%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=gWLYCKwrSvwqowOPUCi%2FlpyckjOqp8UOcIknOnnajHA%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Early registration opportunities<\/a> <\/strong>for parenting students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What does this mean for you<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It means ACC is making sure you know about all the resources available to you and your family, including services such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medical and mental health services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Programs for food and housing assistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parenting and childcare resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job assistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transportation support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic success strategies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earliest Registration Date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal is to enhance the support for parenting students by helping them not only achieve academic success but also balance family and financial responsibilities,\u201d Dr. Shasta Buchanan, ACC Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you a student parent?&nbsp; Fill out a short form on what benefits you need.
