Work is moving forward for the Electric Vehicle (EV) Hub Department of Labor grant, supported by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The grant is part of a $521 million grant announced by the Biden-Harris Administration to build EV charging and alternative-fueling infrastructure, including thousands of new EV charging ports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In support of the grant, Austin Community College District (ACC) and Tesla hosted an event to enhance workforce development in advanced manufacturing and electric vehicle technology at the Riverside Campus in November. Work through the grant will expand access, create jobs, reduce emissions, and support a nationwide transition to clean energy transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two-day event featured a tour of the specialized Tesla training facilities at ACC\u2019s Riverside Campus and a panel discussion at the Highland Campus. The unique labs provide hands-on simulation and training experiences using industry-leading technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTesla recognized our credibility and trusted us to design the program,\u201d says Randell Floyd, ACC manager of Continuing Education Workforce Programs. \u201cThis collaboration prepares students for high-demand careers in clean and innovative technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The panel discussion at ACC Highland\u2019s Presentation Hall explored the partnership’s transformative impact on training programs and workforce readiness. Campus tours and discussions with key stakeholders also highlighted ACC\u2019s growing role in advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tesla\u2019s START program was also spotlighted. This program offers students a paid educational pathway while covering tuition costs. Participants gain classroom instruction and hands-on experience, and job placement within Tesla is guaranteed upon completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This partnership strengthens ACC\u2019s commitment to preparing students for the rapidly evolving demands of the manufacturing and electric vehicle sectors. Through collaborations with industry leaders like Tesla, ACC continues to provide students and the Austin community with opportunities for high-impact careers in emerging industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
