Chloe Mooney, a 30-year-old fashion design student at Austin Community College District (ACC), has spent the last four years building toward this moment: her first public runway show. And she\u2019s bringing more than just fabric to the stage \u2014 a message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy collection is inspired by revolution and a city of canvases. I love graffiti, worn-down posters, and when nature takes back over a space. I want my brand to speak for us when voices aren’t being heard. I want to stitch together community one thread at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chloe started at ACC in 2021 after years of exploring different paths \u2014 first as a licensed cosmetologist, then as a traveler living in a converted bus. She returned to Austin, ready for something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI choose ACC because it is super accessible, the hurdle of applying to several universities is lifted, and getting registered isn’t difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fashion was a natural fit \u2014 not just for the creativity but for the connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love community. Friendship is so incredibly important to me, and clothing is one thing that everyone participates in. Even if you aren’t into fashion, you are likely wearing clothes! For me, it’s an easy way to connect and build community while sharing my skills.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, she\u2019s ready to show the world what she\u2019s created. Her original clothing line will walk the catwalk during ACC\u2019s 4th annual Fashion Showcase \u2014 Visions \u2014 on Saturday, May 10, at the ACC Highland Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI’m pumped! I haven’t shown my collection to anyone outside the walls of these classrooms. It’s been building for a year, and I’m so ready for people to see what I’ve made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chloe says ACC helped her grow both personally and professionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHonestly, ACC has been so supportive. From mental health services to child care assistance. My professors have helped us by doing interviews with us and giving us assignments to build portfolios and resumes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for what\u2019s next?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just wanted to make it here! I’ll probably get a job working with someone to learn more in a real-world environment. I’m keeping my mind open and letting the doors open for me. When I graduate, I’ll see what’s next.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her advice to future students is simple and heartfelt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe gotta look out for one another. If you have a moment to offer space for someone who needs to vent, give it. If you have advice someone asks, share. We truly are stronger together, and we can’t forget that. Take care of each other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
