October is <strong>Cybersecurity Awareness Month<\/strong>. The initiative serves as a reminder of the steps everyone can take to stay safe online and protect their personal data. Austin Community College District (ACC) joins the national campaign led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/cybersecurity-awareness-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency<\/a> (CISA) to highlight simple, everyday steps faculty, staff, and students can take to stay safe online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s theme is \u201cSecuring the Next 250.\u201d The campaign focuses on four simple actions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use strong passwords and a password manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize and report scams\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update your software regularly<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.staysafeonline.org\/resources\/online-safety-and-privacy#articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC shares the best practices to help everyone protect themselves online.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">One More Step: Protect Your ACC Account<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This semester, ACC implemented Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as a requirement for student accounts to help protect your account and personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change was made as a proactive precaution following a recent increase in cyberattacks targeting student accounts across the nation. MFA adds a quick second step when you sign in to ACC systems. After entering your password, you\u2019ll verify your identity using a method such as the Okta Verify app, an authenticator app, or your device\u2019s built-in security features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll be prompted to set up MFA the first time you sign in to an ACC application that requires it. Set up your MFA now so you\u2019re ready to access MyACC, Blackboard, ACCmail, and other ACC services securely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further instructions and support options will be posted on the MFA resource page.
