{"id":1094,"date":"2017-02-08T11:13:36","date_gmt":"2017-02-08T11:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/money\/?p=1094"},"modified":"2024-06-18T13:14:21","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T18:14:21","slug":"get-your-fafsa-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/money\/smmo-blog\/get-your-fafsa-done\/","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s get your 2017\/2018 FAFSA done!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I love checking things off my to-do list, don&#8217;t you? \u00a0Let&#8217;s get one more to-do list item checked off on your list and prepare your 2017\/2018 FAFSA! \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can prepare it yourself (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fafsa.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/fafsa.gov\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) or if you&#8217;d like some coaching throughout the process you have a couple of options:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Option 1: <\/em><\/strong>Attend a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/campaigns\/fafsa-frenzy\/\">FAFSA Frenzy event<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0on campus. <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0B-JCKSvDyXscY1dNa0lsNEhUNlVUeXhuVktqLXRYWTFfYzJR\/view?usp=sharing\">Click here<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a schedule. (Pay close attention to what you need to bring.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><strong>Option 2:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Can\u2019t find an event that works in your schedule? Visit one of the<em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/foundcom.org\/financial-stability\/college-financial-aid-assistance\/\">Community Financial Centers<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (managed by local non-profit organization Foundation Communities) and get free assistance completing your FAFSA. Appointments are recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s your excuse for not preparing your 2017\/2018 FAFSA? \u00a0Is your excuse,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;But I don&#8217;t qualify for financial aid!&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hey, complete the FAFSA anyway. <\/span><b><i>Even if you think you don\u2019t qualify because your income is too high<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be considered for grants, it\u2019s still worth going ahead and completing the FAFSA (remember, the application is FREE&#8230;what do you have to lose?). Most colleges (including ACC)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, state scholarship agencies, and foundations use the FAFSA in deciding who gets their scholarship money, as well as how much each student will receive. Also, filing the\u00a0FAFSA automatically qualifies you for low-cost federal student loans should you need them (and if you do&#8230;only take out what you <\/span><b>need <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and not just what is offered to you.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Remind me, what\u2019s the FAFSA? <\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>F<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ree <\/span><b>A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pplication for <\/span><b>F<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ederal <\/span><b>S<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tudent<\/span><b> A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">id is the form that you fill out to apply for federal grants, loans, and work-study funds for college. Your eligibility for federal grants (which don\u2019t have to be repaid) and federal loans (which do) will generally be based on your financial need, as determined by the information you supply on your FAFSA.
