By having an SI Leader in your course, your students are better able to build community in the classroom, enhance their academic skills, as well as develop a better understanding of the course material. On average, students who attend SI Sessions achieve a letter grade higher in the course than their non-SI attending peers.

Course success: Incorporating SI into your teaching approach not only enhances student success but also contributes to a supportive learning environment with no extra work from you. Because SI Leaders are already familiar with the course, work closely with their professors, and attend lectures, they have a better understanding of the course logistics as well as lesson content. This understanding means that SI Leaders are able to assist students throughout the semester, making the semester feel less hectic overall, for both students and faculty.

Free resource: SI is not only an excellent resource, it is a free resource! The Supplemental Instruction progam is a part of Embedded Learning Services at ACC, funded through the Student Affairs department. With the logistics of SI managed separately from you, you and your students can focus on what is really important–their learning.

Don’t just take it from us! As facilitators of study sessions, SI Leaders must be able to understand the material well enough to guide other students through their learning process. Academic performance is about more than just course knowledge however. Does the student attend most, if not all, lectures? Does the student pay attention during class? Do they take notes? Do they ask questions? Are they submitting their work on time?

Leaders: Beyond seeing a student perform well academically, notice who has the qualities of a leader. Are they approachable to their peers? Are they charismatic? Do they converse with their classmates? Do they hold study sessions?

Collaborators: A crucial aspect of nominating an SI Leader is identifying a student with whom you want to work. Because you will be working closely with this student over the course of the next semester, it is important to nominate someone that is a good collaborator. Are they communicative? Do they have an interest in your discipline?

How do I nominate?

Complete the nomination form before the deadline to nominate an SI Leader for the upcoming semester:

The Fall 2026 Nomination Form is OPEN!

Submit your Fall 2026 SI Nominations HERE

**Faculty email list is currently under construction.
