SI-trained facilitation promotes student collaboration as the means for high quality learning of the course material. SI Leaders do not re-lecture, tutor, nor provide answers during sessions; rather, they encourage students to engage with each other and course resources to better develop their knowledge of the course material. <\/p>\n<p>Professors and SI Leaders collaborate to create exclusive study content for sessions to guide students through the course. Alongside facilitating weekly SI Sessions, SI Leaders attend lectures and take notes on the course content so that they are fully integrated with their assigned course. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fcb90030\">Are you interested in becoming an SI Leader? <a href=\"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/supplemental-instruction\/si-resources-for-faculty\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"115\">Ask your professor to nominate you<\/a>!<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">What are the duties and responsibilities of an SI Leader?<\/h2>\n<p>SI Leaders are expected to complete the following on a weekly basis:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attend class lectures: <\/strong>Show up to class on time, pay attention to lectures and take notes, and generally act as a model student for your peers. <\/p>\n<p><strong>SI Sessions: <\/strong>Host and facilitate 2-3 SI Sessions (up to 3 hours per week), scheduled according to what works best for the SI Leader and students of the course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marketing: <\/strong>Consistently promote SI Sessions to students throughout the semester to encourage attendance (i.e. send emails, create and distribute flyers, in-class announcments). <\/p>\n<p><strong>Administrative tasks: <\/strong>Create session plans, complete session logs, communicate with the SI Team, and submit timesheets regularly throughout the semester.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">How can I become an SI Leader? <\/h2>\n<p>You can become an SI Leader if you meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reside in the state of Texas<\/li>\n<li>Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Achieved a grade of B or higher in the course to be supported<\/li>\n<li>Are <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/supplemental-instruction\/si-resources-for-faculty\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"115\">nominated by an ACC faculty member <\/a><\/strong>who wants SI support for their course<\/li>\n<li>Complete the SI Department\u2019s pre-semester training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">What are the benefits of being an SI Leader?<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\"><strong>Develop Leadership Skills<\/strong><\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>As facilitators of a dynamic and inclusive educational environment, SI Leaders develop important public speaking, team-building, and interpersonal skills.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\"><strong>Enhance Course Knowledge<\/strong><\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>As SI Leaders re-take the course and get reacquainted with the course material, they gain greater knowledge in their course subject. This is particularly beneficial for SI Leaders supporting a course that aligns with their future career. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\"><strong>Career Boost<\/strong><\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>Gain excellent professional relationships and experiences for your resume, as well as your future career! Because they work closely with educational professionals at ACC, SI Leaders often build relationships that can support future growth through recommendation letters, job referrals, and more. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\"><strong>Build Community<\/strong><\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>Connect with students, faculty, and staff across the ACC District. Because SI Leaders work closely with their students throughout the semester, they can help their students succeed in their courses and beyond! <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\"><strong>Get Paid<\/strong><\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>SI Leaders at ACC are compensated with the district&#8217;s base hourly rate of $23\/hr. Returning SI Leaders can support up to two unique courses per semester.\u00a0&#8220;Unique courses&#8221; refers to course sections that are distinct from each other (e.g. PHIL-2306, MATH-1414). If an SI Leader is supporting multiple sections of the same course with the same professor and in the same modality (e.g. 2 sections of DIL PHIL-2306), this counts as one unique course. <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"list\"><p class=\"trigger\"><a href=\"#\">How many hours can I work as an SI Leader?<\/a><\/p><div class=\"toggle_container\"><div class=\"block\"><\/p>\n<p>The number of weekly hours varies by course type.
