ACC Culinary Arts students take their education to Italy! - Student Infohub

Buongiorno dall’italia! A group of Austin Community College District students are taking their studies abroad.

They are taking a 10-day Ancient Grains course with Alba Accademia Alberghiera. The students–– ranging in age from 18 to 73–– are learning more about sweet and savory dishes, like cake, pastry, pasta, and pizza. The program runs from June 24 to July 5.

The ACC culinary and pastry department are the first North American partners for Alba Accademia Alberghiera located in the Italian region of Piedmont.
The course Ancient Grains that ACC students are taking was launched this June 24th and will run through July 4th, 2024.
The focus of the course goes beyond grain, but really digs deeper into the story of the farmers, recipes, and traditions involved.
Students have the opportunity to experience hands on labs as well as didactic visits with some of the best experts in the industry.
Upon their return to the U.S. the students will be doing a grand buffet as part of their final project. Many of the students created go fund me accounts to make it possible to pay for the trip so they will invite the special people in their lives who supported them to enjoy the food they have learned to make.
The age group of this class is from 19 to 73. For several of these students this is their first international trip and they were very nervous. "I would say the pizza has cured the nerves!!" said Chef Stephanie Herrington, the ACC Culinary Arts department chair.

In this program, students have the opportunity to experience hands-on labs and didactic visits with some of the industry’s best experts.
