Balancing classes, work, and life can be overwhelming, especially as the semester shifts from spring to summer. If you’re feeling drained, you’re not alone. ACC student and Office of College Relations intern Vanessa T. found some ways to help you get through the mid-semester slump.

Finding your rhythm takes time, but being patient with yourself and showing kindness along the way is key.

After spring break, it’s totally normal to feel a little sluggish. The excitement of time off can make it hard to get back into academic mode. If you’re feeling drained, know that it’s not just you; almost every college student goes through this. The last few months of the semester are a great chance to give it your all. Refocusing your energy will help you end the academic year feeling proud of everything you’ve accomplished so far!

To make that transition easier, here are a few study tips to help you finish strong:

1. Prioritizing self-care

Taking breaks might feel counterproductive, but even a few minutes of movement (whether it’s running, yoga, journaling, or dancing) can reset your focus. And don’t underestimate the power of sleep! A well-rested brain performs better. Bonus: Give yourself small, healthy treats (like nuts, berries, or dark chocolate) as rewards for completing study goals.

2. Create a motivating study space

Whether customizing your desk with your favorite stationery or heading to the ACCelerator with a friend, an organized and inviting study area can make all the difference. Websites like Pinterest and TikTok offer inspiration, but it doesn’t have to be fancy, just a place that helps you focus.

4. Dedicate one hour a day to academics

Set aside one hour a day to tackle what you can. Even if it’s just one quiz, homework assignment, or reviewing notes, taking the first step can lead to a full study session or at least help check off one thing from your list. Either way, it’s progress.

5. Use your resources

Mid-semester is a great time to reach out. Ask professors about your standing, check in on missing assignments, inquire about extra credit, or connect with classmates for study sessions. ACC has tutoring, academic coaching, and more. Drop by the ACCelerator or a campus computer lab and ask what’s available. Some services are walk-in friendly and available same day.
