Let's Give Back! (Mandatory for ASCENDER students Optional for mentors)

Join us for Let’s Give Back!, an ASCENDER and BRASS opportunity where you can make a real impact in Austin! On Saturday, March 7th, Austin will be celebrating It’s My Park Day across the city.

We have identified two great locations for you to participate in. You may register for only one location, and if you attend and complete your shift, it will count as two ASCENDER events.🥳

  • Alejandra Polcik will be at the North location
  • Diana Gorostieta will be at the South location

⚠️ Important Reminder:
This is not an ACC-organized event—it is hosted by the Austin community. Because of this, space is limited, and it is very important that you follow all registration instructions carefully.

Please only register if you are 100% sure you can attend. Not showing up takes a spot away from someone else and affects the community event.

Before selecting your location, please read the information below.

North  Location: “Show Your Love for Gus Garcia Park!”

About: Join your fellow park lovers as we give back at Gus Garcia Park! We’ll spend the day reinvigorating our butterfly garden and wildflower meadow, picking up trash, and showing our love & appreciation for our wonderful parkland! Snacks and water will be provided. We highly recommend wearing closed-toe shoes, bringing sunscreen, and possibly a light jacket or rain jacket (because this is Texas and you just never know what to expect! 😊). We’ll meet in front of the rec center and get started right at 8:00 am. Thank you so much for joining us on It’s My Park Day!

South  Location: Our Park, Our Home: Where Community Grows” at South Austin Senior Activity Center

About: This “It’s My Park Day Event” would be held at the South Austin Senior Activity Center on March 7th. The idea would be to gather a group of community volunteers and leaders, as well as participants from the South Austin Senior Activity Center, to help mulch the surrounding area park trees of the property. We would attempt to get mulch and work supplies donated. We would provide a lunch of tacos or hot dogs, and more than likely eat inside our multi-purpose room, which is adjacent to our community garden. We would have some senior participants volunteer to perform music during the food/gathering, piano, and guitar performances. We’ve also discussed swag for volunteers.  We feel this would be a great event to have at the South Austin Senior Activity Center and can really give us a wonderful sense of community in the process.
