Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Info Session - Open to All ACC Students
ASCENDER has partnered with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) to bring an informative session for all ACC students to learn about HACU and its partnerships with federal agencies, internships, scholarships, support, leadership, and career development programs, as well as student conferences and summits.

MachisNO: A Conversation About Male Expectations - Open to All ACC Students
Join us on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the HLC Make It Center for MachisNO: A Conversation About Male Expectations. Hear from our guest speakers as they share their experiences with machismo and its link to domestic violence. The session will explore the historical roots of machismo and strategies for challenging harmful stereotypes. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage and reshape perceptions! No registration is required for this session.

Emerging Leaders' Summit - Open to All ACC Students
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in intensive workshops and panel discussions focused on leadership development and career readiness. Additionally, students will have the chance to connect with HACU’s partners, who will be actively networking and recruiting for internship opportunities.

One student will receive a sponsorship to attend the 2024 HACU ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute taking place at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, Aurora, CO. (Includes event registration, airfare, lodging and some meals). Must be present to win.
Eligibility:
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at
a HACU-Member Institution in the Austin Area (Yes, ACC is a HACU-Member Institution) - Open to all majors

New Mentor Orientation (Mandatory for new mentors only)
Welcome, Mentor! At this virtual orientation, you will receive information on the ASCENDER mentoring component and learn about your mentor role. All new participants must attend one direction to become a mentor. Zoom details will be sent out after registering.
*Mandatory for new mentors to attend; former mentors (2023-2024) are not required to attend

New Student Orientation (Mandatory for students)
This isn’t your average New Student Orientation—it’s a one-of-a-kind experience designed exclusively for our new ASCENDER students!!! During this session, you’ll have the chance to meet our awesome staff, connect with other new Ascender students, and learn about all the incredible opportunities that await you in the ASCENDER program. We’re here to ensure you start STRONG, equipped with all the knowledge and support you need to ascend!

Mentor-Mentee Matching (Mandatory for students and mentors)
It’s a Match! At this event, mentors and students will be introduced to one another and will participate in fun activities. Each pair will get familiar with one another to start a fun mentorship, will build goals for the student throughout the academic year, and will plan ways to meet during the first semester.
Note: It is advised to attend the session that corresponds with your campus, but the student and mentor are welcome to attend on any date that works best for both.

El Familiazo (Mandatory for students and mentors)
This is the most exciting event of the semester! We will all discuss ways to support you. Fun activities will take place and brunch/dinner will be served.
Due to space constraints and our current enrollment of over 150 students in the program, we are limiting the number of guests each student can bring. Please pay close attention to the guest limit for the specific Familiazo event you plan to attend. The deadline to RSVP is Friday September 27, 2024.

- Students, you may bring up to 2 guests plus your Ascender mentor (if applicable).
Friday, October 18

- Check-in: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Presentation: 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Dinner: 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Students, you may bring up to 1 guest plus your Ascender mentor (if applicable).
Bonus: The first 40 ASCENDER students to check in will receive 2 free tickets to attend the theater play “Appeal: The New American Musical of Mexican Descent,” after the dinner from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

As a reminder, mentors/mentees, be sure to communicate with one another before registering so you know which Familiazo to attend together.
Texas Book Festival Real Reads Author Event (Optional for Ascender students and mentors)
This year, ASCENDER students have an opportunity to read Texas Book Festival featured author, Daniel Chacón’s new book, The Last Philosopher in Texas: Fictions and Superstitions. In this exclusive event, you will have an opportunity to hear from the author and ask him any questions you have about the stories and his writing process. *Optional for students and mentors

¡La Tamalada! (Mandatory for Ascender students and optional for mentors)
This is the last event of the semester and we want to celebrate Ascenders finishing their first semester of college! Fun activities will be held and announcements will be made regarding the Spring 2023 semester. We’ll play White Elephant and have other festive activities planned.

Partnering with the ACC transfer office, students will tour a 4-year university. They will get information about the admission process, and learn about transfer opportunities. Expect an email with details from the Coordinator.
