ACC Honors Program - Celebrate curiosity

Become an Honors Scholar

Students who wish to expand and enhance their Honors experience may apply to become Honors Scholars. Honors Scholars receive recognition on their transcripts, a digital badge, and honor stoles for graduation ceremonies. Students who are on track to fulfill the requirements are eligible to apply for the Honors Program scholarship.

To register your intention to become an Honors Scholar, contact [email protected]. All you need to do is tell us that you intend to fulfill the requirements, and we’ll add you to our database.

Honors Scholar Requirements

To earn the Honors Scholar distinction, complete all four of the following:

Requirement What You Need to Do How to Complete It
1. Honors Coursework Complete 9 credit hours of Honors courses Courses may be taken across semesters and in any discipline
2. GPA Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA GPA is verified at time of review
3. Leadership Complete one leadership experience Examples listed below
4. Service Choose one service pathway Option A: 12+ hours of service
Option B: One service-learning Honors course

Leadership Options (Choose One)

Leadership experiences can take different forms but must be ACC-based unless they are Honors-coordinated external programs, such as the UT Youth & Community Studies Fellows Program and the PPIA Public Service Weekend.

Examples include:

  • Officer in a student organization (HSO, PTK, SGA, TSS, etc.)
  • Honors Ambassador
  • UT Youth & Community Studies (YCS) Fellows Program
  • PPIA Public Service Weekend (UT LBJ School)
  • ACC Student Life Bat Chat host
  • Honors SPCH 1311: “Leveraging Your Strengths to Lead”

Service Options (Choose One Pathway)

Option A: 12+ Hours of Service

  • Peer tutors for ACC’s Integrated Reading and Writing students: time recorded for you
  • ACC Volunteer Hub opportunities
  • ACC Sustainability “green cards” volunteering
  • ACC Center for Government & Civic Service (contact [email protected] for details)
  • KOOP Radio roles (audio production, web, design, etc.): time recorded for you
  • Service at local nonprofit partners

Use this time log to record hours, unless the organization records the time for you.

Option B: Take a Service-Learning Honors Course

  • ENGL 1302: “Queer Writings: Stories by & about LGBTQ People”
  • SPCH 1311: “Identity, Sex, Gender, and Culture in Communication”
  • SPCH 1315: “Environment, Rights, Humanitarianism and the Rhetoric of Change”

How to Receive Your Honors Scholar Recognition

  1. Submit your Honors Scholar Portfolio (reflection + documentation) by following the instructions provided in this this document.
  2. Email [email protected] to confirm that your materials are ready for review.

We review complete submissions only. All four requirement areas must be documented together.

Honors Scholar microcredential
