October is Campus Sustainability Month, and Austin Community College District (ACC) is celebrating with hands-on opportunities to explore sustainability across the District.

Throughout the month, you can enjoy solar-powered snow cones, tour ACC’s LEED-certified buildings and rooftop solar arrays, volunteer at the Student Farm, and participate in citizen science events with ACC Biology.

Solar Snow Cone Demos | Multiple Campuses

Time: 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

What: Grab a free snow cone made with a solar-powered ice machine, served in a compostable cup, and learn more about ACC’s renewable energy and Zero Waste efforts.

Green Building Tours | Highland and San Gabriel

Explore ACC’s LEED Gold-certified buildings with the Energy & Sustainability Officer and learn how sustainability is incorporated throughout the campuses.

Rooftop Solar Tours | Highland and San Gabriel

Get an up-close look at ACC’s rooftop solar arrays and learn how the College uses renewable energy. Solar tours are limited to ACC students, faculty, and staff age 18 and older and require an RSVP. Green Building and rooftop solar tours are designed to be attended together.

Volunteer Friday at the Student Farm | Elgin Campus

Stop by the ACC Student Farm to tour the farm and help with a variety of volunteer projects. Participants must have a valid ACC ID and bring water, sun protection, and a commitment to safety.

Mothing Citizen Science Events | Austin Parks

Join ACC Biology Department Chair Dr. Curtis Eckerman for evening moth collections and learn about the species found in local parks.
