Luggage Drive Update

The Student Advocacy Center would like to thank all faculty and staff who participated in this year’s Foster Care Luggage Drive.  We received luggage from nearly all campuses, as well as monetary donations from nearly 50 ACC staff members.

The Department of Family & Protective Services received donations totaling $2368.00, as well as 30 separate pieces of luggage!  All funds and donated items go directly to youth currently in foster care.

The ACC Student Advocacy Center is hosting its Foster Care Luggage Drive! This annual effort helps put new and necessary luggage in the hands of young adults aging out of foster care in the Austin area.  

Why Foster Youth Need Luggage

When foster youth transition between foster homes or out of foster care, they often have to leave their foster homes with all of their belongings in trash bags. Foster Care Advocates say that providing youth with new or gently used rolling bags can help them transition out of care with dignity and let them know they are supported. 

Student Advocacy Center Annual Luggage Drive

Each year our dedicated ACC staff and faculty assist these youth in transitioning out of care with the annual luggage drive.  This year the foster care luggage drive takes place May 1 to May 31, 2024. 

Some 60 Austin area high school foster youth will graduate in 2024, and we want to make sure they have luggage to take with them into this new phase! Your campus Student Advocates and the Department of Family and Protective Services are so grateful for your support! So are the youth you will be helping directly!

How to Donate

Your recommended $45 donation will buy one carry-on rolling bag; however, any monetary donation is greatly appreciated.  

Donations are accepted starting May 1 –  May 31st, 2024 in the ACC Marketplace.  Click here to donate.
