Embedded Learning Support Services

What are the Embedded Learning Support Services?

Embedded Learning Support Services enhance the learning environment by directly integrating ACC Embedded Tutors and Academic Coaches into select courses. These services provide a supportive, seamless environment for students to understand new or challenging material through the use of innovative learning and study strategies.

Both Embedded Tutors and Academic Coaches work closely with the instructor for the duration of the course to help students understand course concepts and enhance student engagement. Learn more about their services below.

Embedded Tutors

Tutoring, Academic Coaching, and Supplemental Instruction have embedded their services in ACC courses. This allows students who are enrolled in online courses to have a designated support person for their course throughout the semester that will provide knowledge and skills for a particular content area, provide effective learning strategies like time management, and lead peer study groups with students enrolled in designated embedded courses.

  • Content-specific experts. Subjects include, but are not limited to:
    • Math
    • History

Supplemental Instruction

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program provides academic support to traditionally difficult courses through peer-led study groups. These study groups are led by an SI Leader, a student who previously performed well in a course and was nominated by a faculty member to support the class for future semesters. The SI Leader attends class, takes notes, and then assists you with regular collaborative study group sessions, usually before or after class.

  • In SI sessions, students can expect to:
    • Work together with classmates to better understand the material
    • Compare notes, discuss readings, predict test questions
    • Play games like Jeopardy and Question Pong to engage in fun problem-solving sessions with classmates
