Welcome to Academic Advising!

Advisors help you stay on track, choose classes, navigate registration and holds, explore your academic and career goals, and make the most of your experience at ACC.

Who is my Advisor?

New Students

Once you begin classes at ACC, you will be assigned a dedicated academic advisor. In the meantime, you have several options to connect with an advisor and complete your registration.

After completing Riverbat Student Onboarding, you will be given a link to schedule a group session with an advisor and get registered for classes.

If you are unable to find a group advising session that works for your schedule, there are additional options, including drop-in hours (on campus and online) and online appointments to help you.

Make the Most of Your Advising Session

Use these tips to get the most out of your time with your advisor.

Before your session:

  • Check Self Service to ensure your program of study is correct before your appointment. If it needs to be updated, your advisor can help during your session.
  • Think about your educational, transfer, and career goals so your advisor can help you build the best plan for your future.
  • Complete the Pre-Advising Worksheet (page 4) to be prepared and organized for your session.
  • Review your Program Map.

During your session:

  • Share important information about your goals, concerns, and questions to help your advisor create a plan that works for you.
  • Take notes – Have a notebook, phone, or laptop ready to write down important information and next steps.
  • Ask questions! If something is unclear or confusing, ask follow-up questions or request clarification.

After your session:

  • Recap your understanding of the recommendations you have received during your appointment.
  • Book your next appointment with your advisor to stay on track with your goals.
