If you are an adult education student in the Career Pathways, College Preparation, or High School Equivalency (HSE) Preparation program, you are eligible to apply to our Rainy Day Savings Program!
Requirements to participate
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
- Have not previously participated in the Rainy Day Savings Program.
“To save for a rainy day” means to save money for a future financial emergency. In this program, we open a savings account for you at University Federal Credit Union. Your goal is to accumulate $500 or more in your savings account. We help you get there by giving you a $150 incentive. To earn your $150 incentive, here is a list of the following things you must complete:
- Attend a Welcome Session into the Rainy Day Program. The session will be approximately 2 hours long. We are offering virtual and in-person options!
- Complete one of the financial education modules on iGrad, ACC’s Financial Education Platform. You will complete this during the Welcome Session.
- Set-up direct deposit for your new savings account at UFCU.
Participant spots are limited, so make sure you apply as soon as you can!
If you would like to integrate the Rainy Day Savings Program into an instructional unit on money, here are our recommended lesson plans and resources for adult education instructors.
- Practical Money Skills has lesson plans, student activities, and PowerPoint slides. Here is the college level curriculum. They also have curriculum for 9-12 grade levels.
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has a variety of great tools and handouts that can be turned into lessons. For students who want to learn more and speak languages other than English and Spanish, take a look at their materials in Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, and more!
