If y’all haven’t heard, the start date to file the FAFSA got moved from January 1st to October 1st. No, not the following October, but the previous one. Confusing, right?
Here are a few key things to know about this year’s FAFSA filing:
- Even though you are filing the FAFSA in 2017, it will apply to the following school year (meaning, 2018-2019)
- Because of this change, you can use the taxes you (or your parents) filed for the previous year, meaning that if you are filing right now, you should use the taxes for 2016.
- Remember that it is first come first serve! Make sure you complete your FAFSA by December in order to get a better place in line–and also get it out of the way early!
- Even though the application is opening earlier from now on, it still means you won’t hear from financial aid until your usual date.
Remember that the Financial Aid office is offering FAFSA Workshops this month! Find all the info you need here.
Also, if you haven’t signed up for our Finding the Money Workshops yet, what are you doing? We only have 3 workshops left! Sign up here.
