Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for students is mandatory starting September 28, 2026. Using an app such as Okta or Google Authenticator, you will sign in using your ACC EID and password, and then enter a second code from your phone. This secure sign-on protects your personal information and allows you to access your ACC student services, including Blackboard, ACCemail, Self-Service, and other services.
Set Up Your MFA Account
Important: You will need your phone and a computer to set up your account.
To get started, download Okta Verify App or Google Authenticator App from Google Play (Android) or Apple App store (iOS).
Step 1. Open a web browser and go to austincc.okta.com
Step 2. Enter your ACC EID and password. You may be prompted to complete your current MFA verification method to proceed.
Step 3. Click on the profile icon in the upper right-hand corner and access the security settings.
Step 4. Scroll down to the Extra Verification or Security Methods section. Choose Okta, Google Authenticator, or the MFA of your choice. Okta is the preferred MFA method.
Step 5. Follow the setup instructions.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, adds an extra step when you sign in to any ACC system to help make sure it’s really you. This means you’ll log in using your password and then use another verification method to confirm your identity.
Most digital break-ins happen because of stolen passwords, usually from phishing attacks. ACC is implementing MFA for students to help increase cyber protection. The MFA will help block unauthorized logins by requiring a second verification step — meaning even if a hacker gets your password, they still cannot access your account.
Multi-Factor Authentication is an extra layer of defense to help protect things such as:
- Your Personal Data: Financial aid records, personal banking information, class schedules, and grades.
- Campus Resources: Reduced risk of financial aid fraud and safer access to your student email, registration portals, and online learning platforms.
Can I use SMS for my MFA security measure?
No. After the formal launch on September 28, SMS will not be an option for students. Any students who is using SMS as an option currently will need to select a new method starting September 28.
What do I do if I don’t have a consistent device to use for MFA?
We understand that not every student has access to a personal smartphone or mobile device. ACC is actively working on solutions to ensure every student can complete verification without disruption to their classes.
Will ACC employees also use MFA?
Yes. At ACC, multi-factor authentication is already mandatory for faculty and staff. Starting the week of September 28, 2026, it will also be required for students.
