Active Duty Service Members Information

Welcome Active Duty Service Members, National Guard members, and Reservists!

Thank you for choosing ACC! We appreciate your service to our country and are excited that you are choosing to pursue higher education. We are here to help you make the most of your time at ACC.

If you are on Active Duty or currently serving in the Reserves or National Guard, you have come to the right place for information.

If you are a Veteran and using GI Bill® benefits, please contact the Veterans Resource Center at [email protected] or website here for more information.

First Steps:

Federal Tuition Assistance

All prospective TA students must first speak with their unit Education Service Officer (ESO), a military counselor, or visit their local installation Education Center regarding your desire to use Federal Tuition Assistance. Service members must coordinate with ESO’s and receive approval from commanders before they begin using Federal Tuition Assistance.

  1. After obtaining the proper approval, visit the TA portal for your respective branch and create an account.
  2. Register for your classes.
  3. Log into your branch portal account and request tuition assistance for each of your classes. You’ll need to have your billing statement and your class schedule in digital form to upload onto the portal if/when prompted.
  4. Revisit the portal routinely in the days and weeks following your request. Once your request is approved, you will receive a TA authorization statement.
  5. Email your TA authorization statement to the Business Services Office at [email protected]. The Business Services Office will apply the corresponding amount to your billing statement.

Tuition Assistance is limited and may not cover your entire tuition bill. You will need to make payment arrangements or work with the Financial Aid Office to pay the portion of your bill not covered by Tuition Assistance by the payment deadline in order to avoid schedule cancelation for non payment.

CH1606 MGIB for Guard and Reserves

If you are currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves you may be eligible for for CH1606 MGIB for Guard and Reserves. This benefit pays you a monthly stipend while you are enrolled in school. This benefit does NOT pay for your tuition. You may not use both Federal Tuition Assistance and CH1606 benefits to cover the same courses. You are welcome to be on a payment plan or apply for Financial Aid to assist with covering your tuition.

You can apply to use CH1606 MGIB for Guard/Reserves online at va.gov. Once you have applied for benefits, please go to the Veterans Resource Center website to complete an Inprocessing Checklist to be certified for benefits.

Rate tables for the CH1606 benefit can be found here.

Tuition Assistance Return Policy Due to Course Withdrawal

Withdrawing from a course(s) may require an adjustment of TA funds on the student’s tuition bill in accordance with the tuition refund policies set by Texas Education Code Section 54.006 for all colleges and by ACC Administrative Rule 7.07.002.

Depending on when a class is dropped, a 100%, 70%, 25%, or 0% refund of the tuition and fees for the class will be issued. Only classes dropped prior to the first class day receive a 100% refund. For exact semester dates assigned to these percentages, click here.

In accordance with Texas Education Code 54.006(f) if a student withdraws from ACC because the student is called to active military service, the institution, at the student’s option, shall refund the tuition and fees paid by the student for the semester in which the student withdraws.

Tuition and fees paid directly to the institution by DoD shall be refunded back to DoD rather than directly to the student.

Credit Transfer Policy

Credit for military training and service is evaluated during your first semester, but is awarded after one course is completed at ACC. You may only receive up to 30 credits for military training and service in combination with other non-institutional coursework. More information can be found in the ACC Catalog. ACC uses the American Council on Education (ACE) reference guide to award credit for military training and courses only. ACC’s instructional programs have the final authority on awarding credit. Following ACE recommendations, ACC does not award credit for Vocational Certificate category courses.

Students will order their Air Force transcripts from the Community College of the Air Force and their Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy transcripts from the Joint Services Transcript System.

ACC’s full transfer credit policy can be found on our website.

ACC Re-Admission Policy

ACC is an Open Admissions institution and former or stop-out students are not required to re-apply for admission to the college. Special consideration and assistance will be taken for service member and reservist re-enrollment at ACC if they are temporarily unable to attend class or have to suspend their studies due to service requirements.
