What to do when you have between 0-15 hours
- Meet with your Area of Study advisor
- Declare and verify your major
- Use appropriate Area of Study program maps and university transfer guides to select ACC courses
- Sign up for Transfer 101 by filling out this form. Watch this video to learn more.
- Explore career options:

- Complete the Focus2 (A Career, Major, and Education Planning System)
- Research intended transfer destinations using university websites, meetings with university recruiters, and exploring Big Future. Keep track using our Transfer Research Worksheet
- Pay special attention to application (and major) deadlines & take note of transfer applicant requirements
- Attend Transfer Essentials Workshops, Transfer Week events, and other on-campus transfer events:
- Follow ACC on social media and check the ACC website for events and updates:
- Begin financial planning and budgeting so you have a plan to make college more affordable:
What to do when you have 16+ hours
16+ Hours
- Confirm your major
- Meet with your Area of Study or Faculty Advisor
- Continue to use appropriate Area of Study Program Maps and university transfer guides to select ACC courses – make sure you have the most current version
- Connect with universities:
- Visit university campuses
- Find out if ACC is organizing university tours
- Attend university transfer visits days (ex. Bobcat Days, Aggieland Saturday)
- Attend college transfer fairs
- Schedule a meeting with a university representative
- Research intended transfer destinations to find your right fit
- Add application (and major) deadlines to your calendar
- Take note of transfer applicant requirements
- Attend ACC transfer workshops and events or schedule a one-on-one appointment with a Transfer Specialist
Build a Solid Academic Foundation
- Utilize the ACC Learning Lab for free tutoring and course assistance
- Set up an appointment with an Academic Coach
- Enroll in a course that includes Supplemental Instruction
- Consider taking a course offered by the ACC Honors Program
- Attend office hours with your instructors
Strengthen Your Holistic Application
- Find an internship in your intended field of study
- Volunteer and participate in service learning and leadership opportunities:
- Join Phi Theta Kappa (ACC’s Honor Society)
- Get to know your professors – you may need a letter of recommendation for a future application
- Take advantage of study abroad opportunities
- Take advantage of all ACC workshops and resources available to you
The Application Process
- Complete your ApplyTexas or university application and submit all required documents before the application deadline
- Follow through with all post-acceptance instructions (orientation, advising, registration, etc)
- Follow up with the university to ensure your application is complete
- Add all school codes for all universities in which you are applying on your financial aid application
- Complete university financial aid process early
- Attend ACC financial aid exit loan counseling
- Don’t forget to complete your ACC degree & apply for ACC graduation
- Participate in Reverse Transfer by giving your university consent to release your transcript to ACC on the ApplyTexas admission application
