How to Apply for Student Accessibility Services (SAS): A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Apply to Austin Community College (ACC)
To get started, please begin the college admission and registration process. Students must either be in the process of enrolling or have completed their ACC application before applying for services with Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
If you need any help with your Austin Community College application, our College Destination Center is here to support you—reach out to them via phone at 512-223-4636 (Option 1) or email at [email protected].
Note:
As part of the enrollment process, you may be required to take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment. This state-mandated test measures college readiness in reading, writing, and math.
All first-time college students, including those with disabilities, must complete the TSI unless exempt based on Minimum Scores Eligible for TSI Assessment Exemption. For more information regarding the TSI assessment, please connect with the college’s academic advising team.
If you need accommodations for the assessment, please contact [email protected] before scheduling your assessment for next steps. Last-minute or next-day accommodation requests cannot be guaranteed. Students are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and contact us as early as possible to ensure appropriate support is in place.
Step 2: Apply for Student Accessibility Services (SAS)
To determine your eligibility for services and accommodations, please complete the SAS Application for Services.
Unclear what to submit? We encourage you to review our documentation guidelines before submitting your application. Documentation must be submitted along with your application and should come from a licensed professional who is qualified to diagnose and treat your condition. It should clearly state your current diagnosis, prognosis, and how your disability may impact your academic performance.
If you are submitting self-reported information, please know it will be thoughtfully reviewed based on your individual circumstances as part of Student Accessibility Services interactive process with our advocates. Your voice matters, and your active participation in the process is both valued and encouraged throughout.

Deaf/Blind Students – If you believe you may qualify for a tuition exemption through the State of Texas, click here for more information.
Temporary Disabilities – Students with short-term physical injuries or conditions may be eligible for temporary accommodations to help minimize disruption and support continued enrollment.
Step 3: Connect with SAS for Your Accommodation Meeting
(Requires Course Registration and Student Participation)
After you register for your classes, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) will contact you to schedule your introductory accommodation meeting. This step is a key part of our interactive process, where we collaborate with you to identify accommodations that best support your academic success based on your courses and disability-related needs.
To avoid delays, be sure to:
- Complete your course registration
- Check your ACC student email regularly — this is how we’ll contact you to schedule your meeting
- Stay engaged by responding promptly and preparing to participate in the conversation
During your meeting with an SAS advocate, we’ll:
- Discuss how your disability impacts your learning experience
- Identify potential academic barriers
- Review and explain accommodation options and classroom procedures
Remember:
- Accommodations are not retroactive
- You do not need to reapply for SAS services each semester.
Once your accommodations are approved, you’ll receive access to AIM (Accessibility Information Management)—our secure system where you can request accommodations each semester using your ACC login.
Returning students, we encourage you to visit our Current or Returning Students page regularly for important updates and reminders.
