We are no longer onboarding work-study employees for the 2024-2025 school year. If you are seeking employment, please connect with Career Services. To be considered for work-study funds for the 2025-2026 school year (Fall 2025 – Spring 2026), add your name to the Interest Form linked below.
Overview
The College Work-Study Program provides eligible ACC students the chance to work part-time with ACC or community service partners. Due to funding, we have limited positions available for approximately 100 students each year.
- Work Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, based on financial aid eligibility.
- Pay Rate: $23.00 to $24.10 per hour, depending on the position.
- Pay Schedule: Students receive their earnings as a semi-monthly paycheck.
ACC Grow with Work-Study
As a work-study employee, you automatically benefit from the ACC GROW initiative, which provides personalized job search support, resume and interview skills training, and ongoing career coaching to all student employees at ACC. A GROW coach will be assigned to you once you secure a work-study position. For more details, visit the ACC GROW website.
Eligibility Overview
To qualify for work-study, students must demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet the following eligibility criteria:
Student Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for work-study, students must:
- Complete the financial aid application process and demonstrate need based on federal guidelines.
- Enroll in and maintain a minimum of six college credits each semester.
- Meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards each semester.
- If offered work-study, pass a Criminal History Background Check and complete all Human Resources tasks.
- Comply with the Work-Study Employee Guidelines below if hired.
Work-study Employee Guidelines
Once hired, students are ACC employees. They are expected to earn their award by performing job specific duties and abiding by the following guidelines:
- Remain enrolled in at least 6 credits on their declared degree plan. If enrollment drops below half-time, they must stop working immediately.
- Wait for clearance from the Work-Study Team before starting work.
- Begin work only after at least one class has started for the semester.
- Not work more than the hours determined by the Work-Study Team (up to 19 hours per week).
- Not work during scheduled class or lab time.
- Allow reasonable gaps between class and work hours to arrive on time, including for online classes with scheduled meetings.
- Not work when school is not in session (e.g. intersession or college closure days due to holidays or the weather).
Eligibility for Undocumented Texas Residents
Undocumented students with Texas residency can apply for state grants and work-study by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) instead of the FAFSA. Legal work authorization in the United States is required.
How to Apply for Work-Study
Step 1: Complete the Financial Aid Application Process
Submit your FAFSA and any missing documents via Self-Service.
Note: Undocumented Texas residents with U.S. work authorization can submit the TASFA instead.
Step 2: Add Your Information to the Interest Form
Reminder: Work-study is not guaranteed. It may not be included in your initial financial aid offer due to limited funding. If funding becomes available later, we will use the Interest Form to offer positions to eligible students. Please monitor your ACCMail for any updates
Work-Study Interest Form
To be considered for work-study funds for the 2025-2026 school year (fall 2025 – spring 2026), we recommend adding your name and other relevant information to the Work-Study Interest Form. Please note that funds are limited and based on eligibility. Adding your name to the Interest Form does not guarantee you will receive a work-study offer nor is it considered an application. You can only add your name once per school year.
(ACCmail login required. Using a desktop is recommended when filling out the form. Form may not open on a mobile device.)
What to Do If Offered Work-Study
If you are offered work-study in Self-Service, the Work-Study Team will contact you via your ACCMail account with these next steps:
Step 1: Accept Your Offer and Attend a Student Information Session
Step 2: Secure a Work-Study Job
Step 3: ACC Employee Onboarding
Returning Employees
Returning work-study employees wishing to continue must reapply using the FAFSA and Interest Form (see above). If a returning employee wants a different role, they must inform the Work-Study Team at [email protected] for instructions. Otherwise, returning employees who wish to remain in their same roles will be notified of their official start date.
Work-Study Employers
The Federal College Work-Study Program and the Texas Work-Study Program provide Austin Community College with funds to hire eligible students. The college offers various on-campus and off-campus positions aimed at fostering workforce readiness, encouraging career development, and providing flexible employment opportunities.
How to Request a Work-Study Position
If interested in hiring work-study students, complete the 2025-2026 ACC GROW Student Employee Requisition. While requests can be made year-round, please aim for the following priority deadlines:
- Fall & Spring: May 1
- Spring Only: October 15
To obtain the requisition, contact the Work-Study Coordinator at [email protected]. Once the requisition is reviewed and processed, the Work-Study Team will email the next steps.
Important Considerations for Work-Study Employee Wages
Work-study positions are funded through federal and state allocations, allowing students to earn wages while gaining valuable experience. The hourly wage for work-study employees is set by the college and may vary based on the position.
- ACC Departments: ACC departments that want to hire work-study students do not need to secure funding; the Financial Aid Office handles this through federal and state allocations.
- Non-ACC Offsite Positions: Offsite locations seeking work-study employees should contact the Work-Study Coordinator at [email protected]. Offsite partners may need to pay a portion of the student’s wages.
Training & Development
The hiring department is responsible for training work-study students in their job duties. The hiring manager must meet the definition of a position supervisor set by Human Resources.
